CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James scored 38 points, scored another triple-double and brought up the memories of his time in Cleveland, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 131-120 win on Monday over the Cavaliers, who had a terrible defensive night.
It was James’ only visit to his home, apart from last month’s All-Star Game, and the Akron native amazed the fans who warmly welcomed him. LeBron played 11 seasons in two periods with the Cavs, who are trying to enter the postseason for the first time since the star left in 2018.
James added 10 rebounds and 12 assists for the 105th triple-double of his career and the 6th this season. Try to keep the Lakers alive for the postseason in what has so far been a disappointing campaign.
Russell Westbrook and D.J. Augustin each added 20 points for the Lakers, who entered the game tied for ninth place in the Western Conference.
Darius Garland scored 29 points and added 16 assists for Cleveland, who were one game ahead of Toronto for sixth place in the East. The Cavs will face the Raptors on Thursday.
