In order to establish a bridge of dialogue, the Minister of Energy and Mines (Minem), Carlos Palacios, urged the members of the Fuerabamba community and the operators of the Las Bambas mining company to maintain order and calm in order to solve the problems.
The holder of this portfolio arrived in the district of Chalhuahuacho, in the province of Apurímac, together with a group of specialists from the General Office of Social Management to attend to the community’s complaints.
As he pointed out, one of the pillars of the Executive Branch is to maintain dialogue and seek prompt solutions, since Peru’s economic chain cannot stop and the objective is to consolidate social peace in that area of the country, where this mining project has direct influence.
That is why it will be heard on both sides, in order to determine the status of how the issues that were the subject of commitments during the agreements signed earlier are maintained.

MINERS ENTERED LAS BAMBAS PREDIOS
Through the reports, it became known that last weekend, the community members of Fuerabamba entered the premises of the company MMG, which operates Las Bambas, located in Takiruta.
As noted by community leaders, the occupation was motivated by the breach of commitments that the mining company had made in favor of the population.
Faced with this, the mining company issued a statement in which they expressed their amazement at the measure of the villagers. They added that the communities have not responded to the invitations they have made from the Executive and the company for a dialogue.
They pointed out that so far there are 264 commitments made with Fuerabamba, of which 79% have been fulfilled (54% executed and 25% in execution), while 21% are already scheduled.
MINERA LAS BAMBAS PRONOUNCES ON COMMUNITY ENTRY
In a statement, the mining company Las Bambas ruled on the unauthorized entry of the community members of this area to its premises.
“Surprised by this measure, since the community has not yet responded to repeated invitations from PCM, MINEM and Minera Las Bambas itself to hold a transparent review of the origin and status of fulfillment of social investment commitments,” it reads.

“Las Bambas has 264 commitments made with Fuerabamba, of which 79% have been fulfilled (54% executed and 25% in execution) and 21% are scheduled. Despite the incursion, the company’s sources reaffirmed their vocation for “respectful, transparent and constructive dialogue and reiterates their invitation to Fuerabamba to a joint review of social investment commitments and compliance status”, they explain in the statement.
On the other hand, members of the mining company regretted the eventual economic impact. “Minera Las Bambas generates 1% of Peruvian GDP and 72% of that of Apurimaño,” the company notes. “At the end of 2021, Las Bambas was forced to suspend its production, which represented daily losses of S/. 1.2 million in contractual royalties and S/. 4 million daily income tax,” they add.
