As the two year countdown draws closer for Paris 2024, the international federation for water sports FINA, along with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have published the Aquatics Olympic Qualification System Principles for the Paris 2024 Games

There will be 49 Olympic medal events in five aquatics disciplines: swimming, artistic swimming, open water swimming, diving and water polo. Aquatics will have the most events of any international federation in Paris.

“Our ambition is to give aquatics athletes great opportunities to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through high-quality competitions,” said FINA president Husain Al-Musallam. “We were guided by the mission to ensure the fairness of the qualification process for athletes. This was a truly collaborative effort. It requires a delicate balance, but is one that we were able to achieve together.”

Most of the action will be at the Paris La Defense Arena, Europe’s largest indoor arena. A total of 852 swimmers will compete across 35 medal events. Each country can send at least two athletes.

Marathon swimming will have a unique venue as they will swim in the Seine River with the Eiffel Tower looming overhead.

Water polo, diving and artistic swimming will all be held at the newly-constructed Aquatics Centre.

The Paris 2024 Games will open July 26, 2024 and conclude August 11. All of the aquatics events will commence July 27 and will span a period of nine days, ending on August 4.
