Tonight came to our country a new batch of 787,200 vaccines intended for the age group from 5 to 11 years. In order to continue immunizing more Peruvians, doses from the Pfizer laboratory will be distributed throughout the country.
This new batch was received by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), thanks to the management of the National Center for the Supply of Strategic Health Resources (Cenares).
With this arrival, there are 8 140 800 doses received so far in 2022. The aim is to reach more children and young people, especially in this restart of school classes.
For his part, the director general of Cenares, José Antonio Gonzales, stressed the importance of this arrival of pediatric vaccines, since it will allow this population group to be protected from possible contagion, especially in this resumption of classes.
The vaccines were delivered to Cenares warehouses to be distributed nationwide, through Integrated Health Networks and Regional Health Directorates.
OVERDUE VACCINES
Eduardo Ortega Guillén, head of the team of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) office, spoke with RPP Noticias, to provide an outreach on vaccines that this March 31 they were defeating. Given this, he ruled out that many doses have been missed from the AstraZeneca laboratory.
“First of all, Peru has received 2,400,000 vaccines and I can assure you – with information from yesterday – that there were not even 30,000 doses missing, we are talking about 300,000 vials per vial has 10 doses. Surely today they will end or the loss will be minimal,” he said.
“Surely the issue of saying that millions of doses are going to be lost is false, they have been used throughout this month. The loss figure is only calculated tomorrow. We cannot say that we lost the match when the match is not over,” he added.
DECREASE IN THE VACCINATION PROCESS
Asked about this problem, the Minsa official said that this is due to the fact that many people in this age group were infected with COVID-19 and that is why they had to delay their vaccination schedule.
“They were told at the vaccination centers: ‘Look, you have five days, 10, 15 days, please wait to receive your dose’”.
In addition, he was emphatic in stating that Minsa is responsible for monitoring and implementing new strategies to ensure that the population continues to be vaccinated and protected in the event of the possibility of a fourth wave.
. “The idea is that before they were large vaccination centers, a lot of urban population, a lot of people arriving. It is increasingly difficult for there to be an urban population. In fact, I assure you that in large cities the rate of vaccination with third doses is above 70%, what happens, the farther away from the city we are, we have to go with a mixed strategy. In this case, the vaccination centers are not closed, but they allocate part of their staff to sweep house by house and that is how we managed to improve coverage,” he said.
